LabCertTech provides biological safety cabinet certification in Houston and surrounding areas. Testing is performed by Jerome Brown, an NSF-accredited Biosafety Cabinet Field Certifier in the Enhanced Accreditation Program. Verify the current NSF listing.
We evaluate Class II BSC performance using the applicable NSF/ANSI 49 field certification procedures, manufacturer criteria, and cabinet configuration. The goal is a clear record of measured performance and any deficiencies that need attention.
What BSC testing covers
- Inflow and downflow: airflow measurements using methods appropriate to the cabinet model and type.
- HEPA filter integrity: aerosol challenge testing to evaluate filter and seal leakage.
- Airflow smoke patterns: visualization of airflow behavior in the installed cabinet.
- Installation and exhaust conditions: assessment of the setup and applicable exhaust or alarm checks.
- Additional tests: other applicable tests identified in the agreed certification scope.
The exact test scope depends on the cabinet type, manufacturer instructions, access, and facility requirements. Share the make, model, serial number, and exhaust configuration when requesting service.
Plan routine testing and testing after changes
Coordinate your certification schedule with your biosafety program and applicable requirements. Contact us when a cabinet is installed or relocated, after HEPA replacement or work that may affect performance, or when alarms and abnormal airflow need evaluation. Cabinets used for sterile compounding may have additional certification requirements.
Tell us about recent exhaust fan repairs, HVAC changes, or room balancing. The building exhaust arrangement can affect cabinet performance and may need attention before certification can be completed.
What to expect from your visit
- Confirm the scope. Send the equipment list, previous report, facility location, and preferred dates.
- Prepare the cabinet. Arrange access, appropriate cleaning, and any required decontamination with your EHS or biosafety team.
- Complete onsite testing. We measure performance under the documented test conditions.
- Review the results. Receive a report identifying the unit, test results, acceptance criteria, and documented deficiencies, if present.
If conditions prevent completion, we explain the issue and the next steps. Substantial work beyond the approved scope requires written authorization for the additional scope and price.
Serving Houston-area laboratories
We work with EHS teams, laboratory managers, and facility contacts to coordinate testing around research, teaching, and pharmacy operations. For multiple cabinets, organize your equipment list by building and room so the visit can be planned efficiently.
BSC certification questions
Is a BSC the same as a chemical fume hood?
No. A Class II BSC uses HEPA filtration and controlled airflow for biological containment and product protection. Chemical fume hoods are designed to capture and exhaust chemical vapors. See our laboratory certification services for related testing.
Can you certify a cabinet with an active alarm?
Tell us about the alarm before scheduling. Its cause and effect on required performance must be evaluated; a running blower alone does not establish that the cabinet passes certification.
What information do you need for a quote?
Provide the manufacturer, model, serial number, number of cabinets, facility address, exhaust configuration, and preferred dates. Include known deficiencies and the last report if available.
